In order to save the people from dengue mosquito, NHDF Sri Lanka Foundation with the full support of Gamini Costa Foundation launched a house inspection operation together with the people of Kuruppumulla area along with public health inspectors of Kalutara M.O.H office.
Dengue fever is a viral disease spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. It can lead to severe flu-like symptoms and can be fatal in some cases. Dengue is a serious public health problem in Sri Lanka, with thousands of cases reported every year. To curb the spread of dengue, NHDF Sri Lanka along with Gamini Costa Foundation, along with public health officials, successfully launched several home inspection operations in Kuruppumulla area.
Dr. Sanjiva of Panadura Hospital, who has been working as a consultant for the Gamini Costa Foundation for several years, has made a great contribution to raising awareness about dengue and preventing its spread.
The first step of the operation was to educate people about the risk of dengue fever. The M.O. H. team and the foundation's volunteer team went door to door and talked to the residents about the symptoms of the disease and how to avoid mosquito transmission. Educational materials like brochures and posters were also distributed to make them aware.
Next, the team conducted home inspections to identify mosquito breeding sites and eliminate them. This includes checking for standing water in and around homes as this is where mosquitoes lay their eggs. To prevent mosquito breeding, standing water was removed or treated with larvicide.
Overall, the home inspection operation was a success. The team was able to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites in the Kuruppumulla area, thereby reducing the risk of dengue fever to the local residents. Through our efforts, they are saving lives and making a difference in the fight against this deadly disease.
